Frequently Asked Questions About Boat Rentals
Do I need a boating license to rent a boat in Murrells Inlet?
No boating license is required in South Carolina for boat rentals. However, the designated captain must be at least 21 years old and will receive a full safety briefing before departure. We’ll show you how to operate the boat, review navigation basics, and ensure you’re comfortable before you leave the dock.
Can I bring my dog on the boat rental?
Yes! We’re pet-friendly and welcome dogs on all boat rentals for an additional fee. Please bring water for your pet and keep them leashed if you go ashore, as required by South Carolina state law.
What’s the difference between a half-day and full-day rental?
A half-day rental is 4 hours, perfect for a quick cruise or lunch on the water. A full-day rental is 8 hours, giving you plenty of time to explore multiple destinations, anchor at The Point, and enjoy a full day on the Intracoastal Waterway.
Can I go fishing from the rental boat?
Yes, fishing is allowed from our pontoon boats. You’ll need to purchase a South Carolina saltwater fishing license for anyone fishing (ages 16+) through the SCDNR website. Fishing rod rentals may be available—check with our team when booking.
How far can I take the boat?
You can explore the entire Intracoastal Waterway in the Murrells Inlet area, including trips north toward Pawleys Island and south toward Murrells Inlet. Our boats are not permitted in the ocean. We’ll provide a navigation map showing recommended areas and any restrictions.
What happens if the weather is bad on my rental day?
Safety is our top priority. If weather conditions are unsafe (thunderstorms, high winds, small craft advisories), we’ll work with you to reschedule your rental for another day at no charge. Please check the weather forecast before your rental and contact us if you have concerns.
Is fuel included in the rental price?
Your boat will have a full tank of fuel when you depart. You’re responsible for refueling before you return, or we can refuel the boat and charge you for the fuel used during your rental.
Can I bring food and drinks on the boat?
Absolutely! You can bring your own coolers with food and beverages. We also offer cooler rentals if you don’t have one. Glass bottles are not recommended for safety reasons. You can also stop by Outriggers Bar & Grill before your rental to grab food to-go.
How early should I arrive for my boat rental?
Please arrive 15-20 minutes before your scheduled departure time. This gives us time to complete paperwork, conduct a safety briefing, and get you oriented with the boat. Our marina office is open Mon-Sun 8am-4pm.
